Mental Health and Well-being

These are unprecedented times.  In living memory, schools have not closed in this way before and nor are they likely to do again in our lifetime or our children’s lifetime.  As such, it is important that we recognise the impact this is potentially having on our children’s emotions and mental health. Whilst we have put together a system of learning for your child(ren) to work through,  it is important to acknowledge that they are not at school and the same learning environment cannot, and should not, be recreated at home.  It is very tempting to put in place a strict regime and timetable to ensure that our children continue to learn and don’t fall behind, but this should not be a priority currently.  Some children may like this, others may not so please do not worry about your child ‘falling behind’. It is important to remember that they do not have their friends around to support their learning and play with, the relationships they have with you are very different to the ones they have with their teachers and all of a sudden we are asking them to ‘do school work’ at home.  I would rather the children came back to school keen, motivated learners so that we can then all work together to address any gaps in learning there may be.

In the meantime, please encourage your children to email their teachers and send in any videos or pictures of activities they have been taking part in at home.  Furthermore, please see below a list of website/resources that you can use with your children to support their emotional well-being at this challenging time.
